Tim Hettinger is an important contemporary artist currently living
and working in New York City. HettingerStudios includes not only
paintings and drawings, but also collages, both artistic and commercial
photography, and movies. The current work is more sensitive and
open than ever, combining the free language of poetry and metaphor
with a very basic concern for craftsmanship and aesthetics. His

Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, Tim took an early interest
in art, literature, music and language. Beginning with calligraphy,
he systematically studied and assimilated the traditional styles
and techniques of all the major art forms, specializing finally
in painting. He set up his first serious studio when he was only
17 and began working intensely to master all aspects of his craft.
It was also at this time that he made his first sales and completed
his first commissions.
The early work focused primarily on portraits,
nudes and still
lifes, while continually experimenting with other styles
and subjects. Through the years,
a more abstract and personal vision has developed, culminating in
a rich, original form of abstraction based on figurative references.
His work now illustrates a synthesis of traditional subject matter,
blending with the freedom learned from years of exploration.
